What is an avatar?

An avatar is a computer representation of a person/character. You can create an avatar that looks similar to you, or create a new character to represent your thoughts online.

Voki is a site that specifically allows you to create avatars that can talk!

How Can Voki Help My Math Students be More

Successful?

Problem: I've found in my student teaching that I often teach a concept to my math students in a way that is different from the "traditional" method of which the student's parents learned. For example: traditional addition vs. partial sums addition. As a result, when students go home to work on their homework, their parents are unable to help them learn and understand this new method.

Possible solution: Voki

I can create different math voki that can review the "new" methods of solving problems on my website. In class, I would teach the lesson and then show my students how to see my lesson's review/tutorial online. I would also show the parents on back to school night how they could access the lessons so that they can better help their children in my math class. This way my students (and their parents) can go online to listen and see how their homework should be done and get help  studying for tests.
