What is Skype?

Skype is an online communication tool that you can use to talk to anyone, anywhere in the world. Skype can be used as an instant messaging service, as a telephone, for video conferencing, and file sharing. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system. As long as both parties on a call have access to the internet, communication can be made, with or without video, for no cost.

With Skype, the students got to work at the same time and actually see each other, too.
  14. Present a performance. Whether your class puts on a play, demonstrates a science experiment, or presents the results of a class project, share the fruits of their works with other classes, parents, or other interested people.

What is FaceTime?

FaceTime is a software designed for video calls on a Mac computer or other apple products. At this time, FaceTime is not available for a PC. FaceTime allows video calls to be made from a Mac computer, the iPad 2, the iPhone 4, or the new iPod touch to another device from this list that also has the software. All that is needed to set up the program on your apple device is an apple id and password. Calls can be made as long as the device is connected to the internet, either by ethernet cord or by being in a wifi zone.

How to Use

To start a video call with someone, just find their entry in your contacts list. FaceTime works perfectly with Address Book so you don’t have to enter your contacts from scratch. Click their phone number if you want to call their iPhone 4. To call their iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, use their email address. An invitation pops up on their screen. When they accept, the video call begins. And there you are, face to face. Mac to iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac.
