Overview

“Prezi is the short/nick name of “presentation” in Hungarian” as defined by Peter Halacsy. Peter Arvai, Peter Halacsy, and Adam Somlai-Fischer are three Hungarian men whom founded what we know today as Prezi. The first Prezi created by Adam Somlai-Fischer in 2001 and has come a long way as how we give presentation in classrooms and businesses. These men wanted to paint a picture for the audience as they viewed information in Prezi rather than struggle trying to gain knowledge from a simple PowerPoint. The idea of using Prezi to present information in a fun and innovative way has been developing and updating since about 2005. Eight years later, Prezi is an imaginative way for people to share their thinking process by “zooming” in on presentations.

How to use Prezi

How can you use Prezi in the Classroom?

Prezi is not only for teachers to make a meaningful and engaging presentation but for students to dive deeper into the presenter’s thinking. Prezi is a great tool for the classroom. The information is being taught artistically ‘out of the box’ style compared to the unadventurous PowerPoint presentations. Using Prezi in the classroom is an incredible journey and allows students to dive into the information without getting bored or lost within the concepts and ideas being taught. Instead of seeing the predictable outline used in presentations, Prezi allows the broad idea to be taught but pin points certain aspects of the bigger picture. Teachers can “zoom” into what the students need to focus on and then wrap it all up like a present in the end. Not only are students more engaged throughout the presentation, but they are also visually seeing where the ideas lead to in the thinking and learning process. In the 21st century, elementary students are using technology more and more. Prezi is a unique and exciting tool for the students to use while working on group projects and will allow for the students to be proud and take ownership of their hard work while showing classmates and family.
