Sploder

The Sploder 2.0 web tool allows people to create their own video game.  There are four different types of games you can create: platform creators, physics puzzles, algorithms, and classic shooters .  You are able to use this web design tool for science, math, art, and other standards.  By choosing which type of game you are going to build will allow you to integrate and learn simple and advanced math and science concepts.  To create a game it is a very simple drag and drop system.  There is a wonderul tutorial system that will walk the child step by step on how to create which game they would like to play.

Sploder is an acceptable site for kindergartners and up.  When using this site you are able to upload your created game to a community and allow others to rate the game and give ideas on how to improve the game.  Sploder allows children to play other games created by the Sploder community.

This program can encompass many different standards for different ages.

Third Grade

Standard 2: Visual Arts

1. Artists, viewers, and patrons use the language of art to respond to their own art and the art of others

c: Compare and contrast a work of art and a design product

Third Grade

Standard 3: Visual Arts

2. Demonstrate basic studio skills

a: Demonstrate the ability to experiment with traditional and contemporary media and technologies

b: Create two- and three-dimensional works individually and collaboratively

c: Select tools and materials as directed for a given project or purpose

Objectives: The students will create two two-dimensional games; one will be individually created and the other in a group.

For these standards you will design a game then post the game onto your private page or publish it to the Sploder community.  You are then able to instantly compare and contrast your game to other games on the web-site and to your peers games.  Children will be able to demonstrate the use of contemporary media skills by accessing the computer and setting up a board and drag and drop items onto a game board.  Each item dropped onto the board will possess different abilites and atributes.  These dropped "materials" will allow children to achieve a given project, such as making a physics board to achieve certian objectives within the game or stated by the teacher.
