What is online Scrap booking?

        Online scrap booking is a tool that will allow students to make visual representations of the subjects they are studying. Then share their creation with other students without the expense of printing out their projects. This will also allow students to work at home without taken project materials home with them. This will lessen the chance any part of the project will become lost or damaged.  

What Tool is best for my Class?

     There are many different websites that offer online Scrap booking. Many of them offer free creation of online scrapbook but require you to pay a subscription fee to publish or print the scrap book. However some will allow you to create and publish for free. Some will also allow you to set up privacy setting so only your friends or those who you invite will be allowed to view you scrapbook. The one that I have found that would fit my criteria of Free, Easy to use and privacy was Mixbook.

How to use online scrap books.

            There are many ways to use this program. The first is to have the students start their own accounts and invite the whole class so they can easily share their creations. However, this would require all the students in the class to have a email address that can be given out to the whole class. The Next would be inviting only the teacher making easy to grade. This will allow the teacher to view all of the creations but it does not allow the students to see other works created in the class. The third way is to have the student’s create their scrap book and use a computer to share in a presentation. The last way does not use the tool as it is intended. Inviting the teacher seems to be the easiest way. How it is used that is for the teacher to decide what is appropriate their class.

            Online Scrap books would be best used as an end of the year project giving the students ample time work on the projects. Depending on the subject matter of the class, grade level and capability of the students in the class the accommodation can be made to the assignment. For a history class the students can be given or be allowed to chose a subject to report on. Use pictures maps and text the student can use the Scrap book to tell the story of the event or person they are reporting on in a time line fashion.

     Step 1 select the create tab
