What is Prezi???

Prezi is a presentation software that has endless uses. It basically consists of a virtual canvas in which users add input with the ability of zooming and adding engaging effects. It is a presentation tool that allows the user to add dynamics to the information being exposed in an innovative way. Prezi is also a storytelling tool that can follow a linear and non-linear sequence. Prezi was created in 200 by a Hungarian architect, Adam Somlai-Fischer as an architectural visualization tool. Even though it was originally designed for architecture, it was modified, and now it is highly used across education and other fields.

Prezi in the foreign language environment

Prezi has multiple uses in teaching and learning. It supports students by providing a variety of tools that promote engagement and by acknowledging several learning styles. Foreign language students prefer to watch entertaining presentations with stimulating dynamics rather than a lecture in order to learn a foreign language. It aids teachers in the application of differentiation of instruction. For example, cultural content can be explained very effectively through a prezi. There are also Spanish tutorials that can help Spanish speaking students. To enrich student’s vocabulary, Prezi can be used to present abstract content, such as Spanish poetry, in an illustrated way. This application not only benefits foreign language students, it benefits any content area. Prezi is a sophisticated tool of technology that assists students and teachers create unique presentations where the audience is engaged with the material being presented.

How to create a Prezi

First, you need to sign up through the official Prezi web page. You will be required to provide your e-mail address and to enter your school name and city. Once you sign up, you will instantly receive an e-mail confirming your access to the software. After receiving your confirmation, you will be asked to log in to Prezi.com and enter a password. This is a free tool; however, if you wish to obtain all the available functions, you will have the option to pay. This online software is accessible to teachers and students for free and it is suggested that you only sign up for the free version being that it offers more than enough features.

Once you successfully signed up, you need to login and select “New prezi” and the prompt will take you to a section in which to enter the title of your prezi. Then, the page will give you several templates to choose from (your canvas). This is the initial part of your prezi, now you can follow the tutorial to directly navigate the software.
