What It Is:

 

The iPad is a product of Apple inc. that is a multi-purposeful computer. It is a touch screen computer that is portable (9.5x7.3 in. and 1.44 lb.) The iPad has built in features such as:

Safari: Internet browsing
Mail: Email program
iBooks: ebook app
Photos: camera/picture storage
FaceTime: Video chat app
Maps: Digital Compass
Newsstand: Combines newspaper and magazine subscriptions
Messages: Text messages to other Apple users
Calendar: Digital calendar organizer
iTunes: Music app

The driving feature of the iPad is the extensive number of apps to choose from. There are over 200,000 apps available for the iPad on the App Store. Because of the vast number of programs available on the iPad, it's portability, and user friendly nature, the iPad is an innovative educational tool.

The iPad in Education:

 

With over 20,000 apps available for learning and educational purposes, there are many options to choose from for the classroom. The iPad can be hooked up to a form of display and whatever is on the iPad can be shown on the screen; thus, making it a tool for presentations. Furthermore, the iPad can be used as a textbook. All textbooks can be loaded onto the iPad, making it an easy device to carry books for school. 

 

In special education, the iPad has opened up a whole new world of communication and learning. With apps such as proloquo2go, children who are nonverbal can now communicate through various PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) programs or using writing to express needs. Because of it's easy use, iPad's can serve as voice for students who cannot speak. Since the iPad has so many other features, students are able to use it not only to communicate, but many other needs in
