What is an Interactive White Board (IBW)?

An IBW, also known as Smartboards, is an electronic white board connected to a computer and projector. The board can have a touch-enabled surface allowing students to interact with the activity/information on the board. They can move numbers, label diagrams, erase written information, access multimedia programs or the internet.

IBW’s are great for the classroom because they can hold all the lesson information you need; from content to multimedia files to activities. All of these can be accessed from the white board.

There are many benefits to using an interactive board in the classroom, including:

  • It involves students with technology
  • Is interactive which engages learners
  • Great for demonstrations, especially those that need to be colorful
  • Benefits multiple learning styles

  • Label the muscles that particular activity is using
  • Identify body parts
  • Put foods into the correct MyPyramid category
  • Link to videos showing the proper technique of the sport

Professional sports teams are using IBW's, or Coachboards, to teach, strategize, and review plays.
