Math Ninja Free

What is Math Ninja?

Math Ninja (free) is an app for iPad, iPod, iPhone that lets students practice their math facts. The player is trying to keep the dog-bots and cat-bots from reaching their treehouse. Players earn money by solving math problems to upgrade the security on their tree house and to make their blow dart shoot faster. At the end of each level the player has to answer math problems to keep the tomato villain from stilling their treasure. The player or teacher can choose from addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts. You can turn them all on or select a specific operation for students to practice. If the student types in the wrong answer the app tells them the answer. There are three different levels: easy, normal and ninja. The the levels get harder in two different ways. They have more bots to save your tree house from and the math problems get harder.

What you get when you buy the full version:

With the free version you only get the first 4 levels, one method of destroying bots, and only the cat-bots and dog-bots. With the full version you get more levels, different bots such as ice-bots and fire-bots, and more methods to purchase for destroying bots.

Where to find the app:

In the app store on your apple device search for "Math Ninja" This will bring up the free and full versions for you to choose from. You can click here to open the app in iTunes for a preview and to also view screen shots.

How to use this app in your classroom:

This app would be good to use with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to practice fluency with their math facts. Depending on what you would like your students to practice you can have them keep all the operations turned on or turn off all except the operation that you want them to practice fluency on. One of the best ways to integrate this into your math lessons would be to use it after you have gone through all the math facts you are teaching your students and then have them use the app to further practice their math facts. This app is a fun way to help students gain speed and recall in answering their math facts. For meeting specific colorado content standards, this app fits in well with both 3rd and 4th grade Colorado math standards.
